Infectious disease prevention in the home and community: closing the circle
In recent years, there has been much investment in preventing hospital-acquired infections. Increasingly, it is accepted that reducing infection in healthcare settings cannot be achieved without also reducing the circulation of pathogens in the community. As standards of infection control in healthcare settings improve, hygiene in home and everyday life settings is becoming exposed as the weak link in the chain.
