Study of infectious intestinal disease in England: rates in the community, presenting to general practice, and reported to national surveillance

This English study investigates the incidence and aetiology of infectious intestinal disease in the community. Results reveal an estimated 9.4 million cases occurring in the community each year, i.e., 1 in 5 people each year, of whom only 1 in 6 (1.5 million cases) presents to a general practitioner.
