Prevalence of unsafe practices during home preparation of food in Argentina.

107 people who regularly prepared food in the home completed a questionnaire to evaluate the occurrence of food handling errors. For example, approx 20% of respondents only sometimes wash their hands before preparing food and 32% did not wash chopping boards after use with raw meat or poultry and before using it again. The sample population in this study was more educated that the general population, with <50% from health and food sciences related disciplines, suggesting that the problems not only lie in lack of information but also in changing cultural habits.
