Prevalence of hospital-acquired infections in a homecare setting.

This study evaluated the prevalence of hospital-acquired infections (HAI) in patients undergoing a care procedure with an infection risk and who had been in homecare for >48 h on the day of the survey. Overall, 6.1% of patients had at least one HAI. The most common infection was urinary tract infection, followed by skin infection. E. coli, Staph aureus and Enterococcus species were the most predominant species. Journal of Hospital Infection 2005;59:148-51.
