The home environment and salmonellosis in children.

In an investigation of 50 homes with an infant infected with Salmonella (mainly S. typhimurium or S. newport) all but 2 cases revealed the same serotype isolated from the environment (dirt surrounding front doors, refrigerators), from another family member, or from household pets. Clinicians should concentrate on educating parents about the environmental spread of Salmonella. Pediatrics 1999;103(1):E1.
