This study examined the distribution of the qacED1 gene in 283 strains of Gram-negative bacteria isolated from clinical specimens from China using PCR. Clonally different strains of Enterobacter cloacae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Flavobactrium spp. (N ΒΌ 15), were isolated from various clinical specimens. The qacED1 gene was detected in 161 of the 283 clinical isolates of Gram-negative bacteria (56.9%). J Hosp Infect. 2008;69:394-5.
