Bacterial contamination of children’s toys used in a general practitioner’s surgery.

Examination of 50 toys after a morning surgery in an inner city practice, revealed the toys were generally unclean and 10% were contaminated by potential pathogens. Bacteria were cultured more often from soft toys than hard toys. Therefore there does exist a risk of cross-infection with the use of toys in a clinic. Scottish Medical Journal 2000:45:12-13.
