August 2nd 2013: Life’s a beach – hand hygiene on holiday picnics

We are all being told to encourage children to “go out and get dirty”, but we still need to practise good hygiene when it matters – and that includes good hand hygiene, even when we are out on the beach or a picnic.  The American Cleaning Institute has drawn up an advice sheet for families around hand hygiene whilst we are on holiday.  No its not being overprotective – it makes good sense.  Back in 1999 there was a case of a young girl who died from an E. coli O157 infection. Investigations revealed that the most likely cause was contaminated sewage. The advice sheet can be found at http://www.cleaninginstitute.org/clean_living/cm_12_mayjun_lifes_a_beach.aspx
