Infection Prevention and Control in Childcare settings

This guidance, produced by Health Protection Scotland, covers all day care facilities for children including nurseries, day-care centres, playgroups,crèches, children’s centres, childminders, after-school clubs and holiday clubs. This document provides guidance and advice on preventing and controlling infection for staff who work with children in childcare facilities (day-care) and childminding services in Scotland.

It contains introductory sections on how germs spread and basic facts about germs. It also contains sections on hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Environmental cleanliness, dealing with spillages of blood and body fluids, equipment cleanliness, management of waste,  linen/laundry, food and kitchen hygiene, keeping toys and equipment clean
