This English study investigates the incidence and aetiology of infectious intestinal disease in the community. Results reveal an estimated 9.4 million cases occurring in the community each year, i.e., 1 in 5 people each year, of whom only 1 in 6 (1.5 million cases) presents to a general practitioner.
